FASHIONABLE MUSIC : THE SOULS OF LIBERTY TAKEOVER

Music is definitely the must have accessory to any wardrobe. Most musicians are seasonal and few are legendary. New hip-hop group Souls of Liberty are definitely legends in the making. I sat down with Tenelle Bufford whose legend name is Tenelle Donta and Ryan Brown otherwise known as Ryan Escobar about their new destiny. The group recently launched a mixtape entitled Carpe Diem, which has definitely started a buzz. With their sense of style, amazing charm, and charasmatic humor Souls of Liberty is a automatic hit. The St. Louis natives will definitely dominate the music industry so GET TO KNOW SOULS OF LIBERTY.

Q: How did the group Souls of Liberty begin?

Tenelle Donta: Well the name came from history class. We learned about the sons of liberty who were colonial patriots fighting for freedom and we took it and ran with it.

Ryan Escobar: We both started rapping at a young age. We went through several different stages of Souls of Liberty. Spring Break '09 we were just playing around at steak and shake and listening to a song we thought was funny. We saw a girl with a big booty and started making raps, which is when we thought to come up with a mixtape. Not too long after that we released two mixtapes called "Long locks and Nike socks" and "One Soul At A Time".

Q: There is a song on the mixtape entitled "5 shots". What is the content of the song?

Ryan Escobar: People really didn't take us seriously at first as rappers. The context of the song insist that no matter how many shots people take at us we are here to stay. We are just going to get better in the rap game and once people realized how serious we are they started to change their minds.

Q: What separates Souls of Liberty from other rappers in the industry?

Tenelle Donta: We are more of artists than hip hop. We want to leave a legacy and our mixtapes are like a documentation of our lifelong brotherhood. A lot of people in the music industry are doing the same thing and we are a little different and stay true to ourselves while trying to find our way.

Ryan Escobar: The problem with the rap game is that everyone compares each other. We took jazz, pop, and rock which are all different sets of genres. There are different types of genres in hip-hop in which all come together to make up the genre. The group U2 is definitely ideal of what we want to accomplish. Their music is timeless and we want to eventually be greater than them.

Souls of Liberty definitely gets the fashionable approval of Tailored Silhouette. The mixtape "CARPE DIEM" is a must hear. Coming up next from the dynamic duo is the mixtape "Music, Money, and Memories" and the more traditional mixtape entitle "Part Time Student".

IAMME COLLECTION Designer: Darren Nesbitt

Inspiration for designing clothing for a new season can be drawn from colors, music, and even nature. For 22 year-old designer, Darren Nesbitt, inspiration derives from researching European, Asian, and African royalties from the 16th century for his men’s collection entitled Iamme. Nesbitt describes his love for researching cultures for new designs,

“Generalizations from cultures are very influential in drawing inspiration for designs. I love researching different cultures and taking broad aspects of royalty lifestyles and making them visual”, said Nesbitt.

Iamme provides a new chic look for men, which is high fashion while also knocking on the door of men’s couture. The collection caters to a large range of consumers with ready to wear items such as hoodies and t-shirts but also high fashion clothing such as tailored suits and corporate looks. Iamme has a very distinct look, which varies considerably from other men lines that are currently on the market. Darren Nesbitt believes his line has that distinction because he thinks of fashion as a science.

“Fashion is a science. Researching about what consumers want and being cohesive with images, fits, markets, and garments are very important to the line. We want our garments to fit tailored to each consumer so that they can wear the garment and not let the garment wear them”, said Nesbitt.

Creativity is also a concept that the Iamme collection provides for its’ consumers. When producing new ideas for t-shirts and hoodies Nesbitt often wants to inspire consumers to ultimately think differently. Iamme believes that if people aren’t presented clothing that is requires them to think outside of the box, they will continue to buy the same type of clothing.

One item that Iamme really encourages its consumers to think outside of the box and accept is their foxtails. At first the foxtail idea was used as an idea to produce key chains for the line, but now it has developed into so much more and is becoming more and more popular. I personally believe that the foxtail adds a classic and conservative look with a twist of adventure for the men’s line.

Iamme is a new fresh line that definitely has a promising future. It is fashion forward and is setting the tone for young men lines all over the country. Challenging their consumers to think outside the box and offering clothing to support the challenge is sure to be a success. I am eager to witness the success of this inquisitive fashion line.

Q & A w/ designer JESSICA BUCK OF VIXEN'S WARDROBE: A LINE ON THE RISE

Q: What is your inspiration for 'Vixenswardrobe'?

A: I take from music, beauty, and make-up. They all just work hand in hand. I also think of themes. For my upcoming premiere I am thinking about the theme "knocking down the walls". I'm at a time in my line where I just want to "Go hard" like Rihanna.

Q: Who is your target audience?

A: My target audience is chic modern young women ranging from teen to upper professional.

Q: What was your first experiences in fashion?

A: My best friend in college had a brother who was a designer and he asked us to model for his college tour. I hated modeling, so I asked him to teach me how to sew his dress in his spare time. After that I really liked it and that weekend I bought my first sewing machine, and the following weekend I bought four more sewing machines.

Q: Who are fashion icons that you really admire or look up to?

A: I really admire Tracee Reece and Lady Gaga of course. Rihanna fashion team is really doing it right now too.

Q: What direction do you see 'Vixen's Wardrobe' going in the next 5 years?

A: If all goes well this summer, I plan to move to New York and try to take the line mainstream so I can get into stores. I also want to branch off into making more costume clothes for performers such as the clothes that Lady GaGa or Beyoncé wears when they perform. If I don't go to New York then I will just open up my own boutique here in Saint Louis and become a household name.

Q: What do you want consumers to know about 'Vixen's Wardrobe'?

A: I want people to know that clothes are materialistic. Every woman wants to look and feel good, but 'Vixens Wardrobe' is selling an image. We aren't just selling clothes, but rather confidence. Every woman can feel confident about themselves. I'm not in the fashion designing business for the money, but rather for the enjoyment and satisfaction of my audience and consumers.

WHAT IS TAILORED SILHOUETTE?

TAILORED SILHOUETTE is not just a fashion blog, but a place men and women can go and absorb the latest styles and receive fashion tips. Fashion isn't about wearing "What's Hot" but rather taking broad fashion styles and TAILORING them to fit your personality. Never wear an item of clothing just because it is the "in" thing to do. Wear an ensemble because it makes you feel good and compliments the way you view yourself as a person. I want the readers of my blog to always remember that the BEST ACCESSORY to any ensemble is CONFIDENCE! Clothing leaves a visual SILHOUETTE, but confidence leaves a lasting impression forever!
